Being a teacher is...

When I became more aware of what the teaching profession was based on, I got a little dizzy. I believe that this profession has a great responsibility and I have sometimes hesitated to develop it properly. It is not based on painting and coloring or singing at all hours, but is about accompanying a few people to develop in a personal and human way. Being a teacher is not about giving a set of contents that the law requires of us, it goes much further: it is about participating in the formation of the personalities of our students, transmitting a set of values, not imposing them, and realizing what needs our students have in order to be able to help them.

Being a teacher is more than it seems: it is learning to separate ourselves from our own prejudices and stereotypes, becoming aware of the failings of society and teaching our students to see the world with different eyes so as not to make them absorb the hatred that exists in it.

It consists in giving freedom, but without ceasing to accompany in the process of learning life. It’s to feel again, to create, to get excited about things that we think are small. It is rediscovering the world through the eyes of someone who does not yet look with prejudiced eyes and preventing him from losing that essence without neglecting maturity.

To be a teacher is to try to change the world through good education and transmission of values to future generations, realizing our own mistakes and being aware that it is never too late to unlearn and relearn.
